Abusing pain relievers can cause heart problems

analgesicos According to a study published in the British Medical Journal , daily consumption of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or naproxen can increase the risk of heart disease .

The authors, from the University of Bern in Switzerland, examined more than 116,000 patients from 31 clinical trials who had taken ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, and other pain relievers and anti-inflammatories available without a prescription. And they concluded that in the case of those over 65 who take anti-inflammatories to combat chronic pain such as those caused by arthritis or lower back problems, the risk of death from cardiovascular complications could double, or even triple if the drug chosen is ibuprofen and quadrupled when ingesting diclofenac daily. The safest drug in relation to cardiovascular health was, according to the study, naproxen.

According to Professor Peter Juni, head of the Institute for Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Bern and director of the study, it would be advisable to reconsider the free sale of drugs such as diclofenac or ibuprofen.
