The repellants make the human being unattractive to the smell of these sucking diptera. The effective formulas to drive them away include two types of compounds: synthetic and natural. Among the former, DEET (N, N-diethyl-meta-toluamide), ethyl-exandiol and hydroxyethyl-isobutyl-piperidine-carboxylate stand out. The latter is the chemical formula of Bayrepel, Autan's new repellent that offers protection for up to 9 hours. Natural repellants include citronella, cedar, and soybean oils.
It must be said that the intake of garlic, bananas and vitamin C as protection against mosquitoes is a myth , as well as that the repellers that emit any type of sound, including ultrasounds, are simply a hoax.
