A study conducted in late 2002 by biologists at Dalhouise University in Halifax, Canada, has revealed that some species of sharks are disappearing. The hammerhead shark population, the most threatened , has dropped by 89% since 1986. It is followed in this unfortunate ranking by the thresher shark , which has suffered a loss of 80%, the white, with 79%, and the tiger , 65 % and blue, with 60%. Overfishing for the commercialization of their fins, the destruction of their habitat and accidental overfishing, along with other species, such as tuna, are the causes.
