Corona in Germany: RKI registers more than 130,000 new infections – incidence reaches new high

The seven-day incidence exceeded the threshold of 1400 for the first time on Sunday (02/06/2022).

Berlin – The seven-day incidence of new corona infections in Germany has reached another high. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), it was 1400.8 nationwide on Sunday morning. The incidence is the number of new infections per 100,000 people over a seven-day period.

For comparison: the day before the value was 1388.0. A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 1156.8 (previous month: 285.9). The health authorities in Germany reported 133,173 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5 a.m. A week ago there were 118,970 infections.

Experts assume a high and increasing number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data, partly because testing capacities and health authorities are at their limits in many places.

Corona case numbers for Germany: RKI records 41 deaths

As the RKI further announced, 41 other deaths related to the corona virus were also recorded on Sunday.

According to the RKI, the health authorities have recorded a total of 11,022,590 cases of infection since the beginning of the pandemic. The total number of registered corona deaths in Germany is now 118,717. The RKI puts the number of people who have recovered from corona disease in Germany at around 8,058,100.

In November, the federal and state governments had defined the so-called hospitalization incidence as the decisive benchmark for tightening or relaxing the corona measures. This value indicates how many people per 100,000 people are in the hospital within seven days because of a corona infection. According to the latest RKI report, the hospitalization incidence on Friday was 5.45 nationwide. These may also include people with a positive corona test who have another main illness.
