A debate about gender-equitable language and discrimination flared up on Twitter after an LNER conductor greeted the train passengers.
A conductor on the London North Eastern Railway (LNER) certainly did not expect that. He greeted his passengers with the words “good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls”. No sooner had he uttered these words than a gender debate went viral on Twitter.
A passenger, who had heard the conductor's words and identified himself as non-binary, was indignant about the language used by the train companies and complained on the social platform Twitter. The London North Eastern Railway responded promptly, apologized to the passenger and vowed on the social platform to strive for more inclusiveness in the future and to reconsider and, if necessary, adapt the guidelines of the corporate language. * 24hamburg.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
