Growing corona risk for unvaccinated people – "3G" from Monday

Vaccinated, tested, recovered – from Monday onwards you will hardly be able to go to a restaurant or the cinema without a corresponding proof. Corona predominantly makes unvaccinated people seriously ill.

Berlin – Corona is spreading strongly again in Germany and especially threatens unvaccinated people. At the same time, “3G” will largely apply from Monday: If there is a high level of infection, access to public indoor areas will only be given to those who have been vaccinated, recovered or those who have tested negative.

According to an agreement between the federal government and the federal states, the federal states prescribe “3G” for clinics, nursing homes, fitness studios, swimming pools, hairdressers, hotels and, for example, in restaurants or at events.

Seven-day incidence continued to rise

The seven-day incidence rose above 50 on Saturday for the first time since May. On Sunday, 54.5 per 100,000 people were newly infected with corona within seven days. The state with the strongest increase is currently by far North Rhine-Westphalia with 99.2, followed by Berlin with an incidence of 67.3. Regional states such as Baden-Württemberg (46.6) and Bavaria (41.1) are below the national average. The number of hospital patients with corona is increasing. Especially 35 to 59 year olds are affected. Almost all infections can be traced back to the particularly contagious Delta variant.

People with full vaccination protection only get corona comparatively rarely and very rarely seriously, as an evaluation by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) shows. There have been more than 13,000 infections since February despite the vaccination. Only 2.4 percent of corona intensive care patients aged 18 to 59 were recently fully vaccinated. Hajo Zeeb from the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology told the German Press Agency: “For those who have been vaccinated, the situation is still relatively relaxed.” In total, the RKI has counted almost 3.9 million corona infections since the beginning of the pandemic.

The rate of vaccination has decreased

People in their early 20s – who on average are vaccinated much less often – recently became infected more than ten times more often than those between 65 and 84 years of age. The vaccination rate in Germany had decreased significantly in the past few weeks. 58.8 percent of people are fully vaccinated, 63.9 percent at least once. Zeeb expects a nationwide incidence of 100 in just over two weeks.

In Bavaria, Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) no longer wants to align the corona rate only with incidence. “Due to the high vaccination rate, the methodology of the first three waves, ie to concentrate only on the incidence, is no longer suitable,” said Söder of the “Münchner Merkur tz media group” (Saturday). Instead, the situation in the clinics should be taken into account in the future and “a kind of hospital traffic light” should set the red line.

In Baden-Württemberg, everyone has been allowed to participate in social life again, regardless of the incidence, since last Monday – provided they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested. Before similar rules apply in Bavaria, “3G” will be prescribed there from this Monday onwards from an incidence of 35. In Rhineland-Palatinate and Hamburg, among others, the “3G” rule is to apply from Monday, in Lower Saxony from Tuesday, and in Berlin it has been in force since Friday for more areas than before.

With “3G rules” through autumn and winter

Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) rules out future contact and exit restrictions for recovered and vaccinated people. The goal is to get through the autumn and winter with distance, hygiene and masks in public spaces, “3G rules” indoors “and vaccinations, vaccinations, vaccinations without further measures”, he said on Friday evening during a virtual visit to the CDU Wiesbaden. Economics Minister PeterAltmaier (CDU) told the Funke media group: “After everything we know today, we can avoid a new lockdown for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered.”

Hotels and restaurants are not satisfied with “3G”. The rules meant more effort, there was a risk of lost sales, said the managing director of her association Dehoga, Ingrid Hartges, the newspapers of the Funke media group. dpa
