Like his grandfather, Grand Duke Jean, Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg recently became Chairman of the Scouts. In an interview, he explains what that means for him.
Dudelange – More than two million scouts from 171 countries took part in the “Jamboree On The Air” and “Jamboree On The Internet” (JOTA-JOTI), the largest digital event of the scout movement.
Prince Guillaume (39), recently appointed chairman of the World Scout Foundation, attended the meeting at Chalet des Greng Scouten a Guiden.
Together with members of the Federation of Scouts in Luxembourg (SIL), the Chief Scout made contact with six stations spread across the country via a radio and wished all scouts an excellent jamboree in his opening speech. His greeting also went to the European headquarters of JOTA, which is also based in the Grand Duchy.
In an interview with the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), who organize the spectacle for educational purposes, Prince Guillaume * shared his experiences as a scout, guided by the values of the movement that hold the community together.
Among other things, His Highness told of the enriching trips that he was allowed to experience, including a project in Nepal in which he helped rebuild a school. He also stressed the importance of solidarity in these troubled times, citing the example of the Luxembourg scouts who had helped people in need at the height of the pandemic.
