Image boss Julian Reichelt has to go – Axel-Springer-Verlag names reason for exemption

Bild boss Julian Reichelt has to vacate his post after “new findings”. The Axel-Springer-Verlag is now taking a position on the dismissal.

Berlin – Due to new “findings about the current behavior of Julian Reichelt”, the Axel Springer Verlag has released the previous editor-in-chief of Bild “with immediate effect from his duties”. The publisher announced this on its website early Monday evening (October 18, 2021).

The publisher justifies the new findings with press research. This would have led the company to investigate the allegations against Julian Reichelt, who had to face compliance proceedings in the spring and was released for a few days, in more detail. Now the 41-year-old has to finally vacate the executive chair, according to information from the publisher.

The publisher’s step was justified with the reproach to Reichelt that he had “not clearly separated private and professional matters and told the board the untruth about it”. The publisher points out that in the course of the compliance proceedings against Reichelt in spring 2021, there were “accusations of amicable love affairs with Bild employees and indications of abuse of power in this context.”

Reichelt’s successor in the editor-in-chief of Bild-Zeitung will be 37-year-old Johannes Boie, who was previously editor-in-chief of Welt am Sonntag for the publisher.
