Queen Máxima: Thanks to Corona, more time for family

This Monday the Dutch Queen Máxima celebrates her 50th birthday. Her last year was much quieter than usual.

The Hague (AP) – The Dutch Queen Máxima enjoys an advantage of the corona pandemic: She was grateful that she was able to spend more time with the family, said Máxima in a TV interview in The Hague on the occasion of her 50th birthday on Monday.

The Argentine has to travel a lot, especially for her voluntary work at the United Nations. “I have to say: I traveled a little too much before Corona,” she admitted. “I’m secretly a little happy that I have to travel less, especially because two children are now leaving the house. I’m really grateful that I had so much time with them now. “

Crown Princess Amalia (17) wants to travel for a year after graduating from high school and do internships. And the second daughter Alexia (15) will attend boarding school in Wales in the new school year. Then only the youngest daughter Ariane (14) is at home with her parents in the palace in The Hague.

Because of the corona pandemic, the royal family cannot celebrate the 50th of Máxima in a big way. In addition, Amalia’s Abitur exams began on the same day. “We will wait for better times,” said the Queen. The most important thing on her birthday is that “I can get older and be healthy”.
