Sainz praises Jeddah circuit and Ferrari's performance

Carlos Sainz has arrived at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix with two open fronts, one personally and others from the team side. With only two races left to finish the season, the Spanish rider will have to give his best to achieve the two main objectives.

In the drivers’ standings, Sainz is currently in seventh position, just behind his teammate, Charles Leclerc, with a difference of seven points, but ahead of them is Lando Norris, who has only one more point. than the Monegasque, for what seems to be the main objective of both Ferrari drivers at this end of 2021.

On the other hand, Ferrari and McLaren are still battling to see which team manages to finish the season ‘first of the rest’, although after the latest treble the Italian team managed to turn the table around and now have a fairly solid lead of 39.5p.

After the first two free training sessions had been played at the new Jeddah street circuit, Sainz wanted to express his feelings and acknowledged that at the moment he is more than happy with absolutely everything.

“It has been very different to any circuit I have driven before. To be honest, the intensity, the emotion and the adrenaline that this track gives you is something I haven’t experienced since my days in Macau ,” said the Spaniard.

Focusing more on the performance of the Ferrar SF21, Sainz admitted that so far everything has gone smoothly for the Maranello team.

“One thing that helped a lot was that the car had a lot of grip. When the tarmac has a lot of grip, let’s just say it’s a lot easier for us to set up the car and you don’t have to think too much about balance.

“In general, a fairly easy day in that sense, but a very difficult day from the driving point of view, trying to adapt as best as possible to this type of circuit,” he added.

One of the biggest headaches for the teams on this first Friday at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix seems to have been the tires and, how could it be otherwise, also for Scuderia Ferrari.

“When you set a good lap, the tires are very close to the limit, at least that’s what our data says. I think there will be a lot of drivers thinking which compound they’re going to start the race with, because all three look very close to each other in this track”.

“I feel relatively confident. I did a good preparation, catching up very little by little. And the pace has been there. But at the moment it looks like another very close battle with AlphaTauri and Alpine,” said Carlos Sainz to conclude his remarks.
