Strong earthquake hits Crete

Numerous people in Greece have experienced a powerful earthquake. Among other things, the holiday island of Crete was hit.

Crete – The Greek island of Crete was hit by an earthquake on Tuesday (October 12th, 2021). According to the information provided by a local earthquake station, the quake had a magnitude of 6.4. The epicenter was therefore around 400 kilometers southeast of the capital Athens. In the port city of Heraklion and many other places, people fled to the streets in a panic. There were initially no reports of injuries or even deaths. Only about two weeks ago there was an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 off Crete.

However, numerous travelers reported on Twitter that the earthquake was clearly noticeable. For example, one user writes: “We felt it in Rhodes.” Eyewitnesses reported on social media that the earth shook for at least 29 seconds. (tu / AFP)
