Formula 1 releases regulations for the 2022 season, which has generated great expectation among fans after much of the hybrid era that Mercedes dominated. These new rules have implied a notable change in the single-seaters, which we had already begun to observe in the team presentations and shakedowns, but not as clearly as we can see on the asphalt.
This first pre-season test held in Barcelona, as is customary for Formula 1, is making it possible to begin to clearly verify the different approaches that the teams have chosen to develop their cars. The engineers, as avid as ever, have found different ways of interpreting the regulations, giving rise to cars that are quite different from each other, but all of them built under the same restrictions.
In addition, we have not only seen the shapes chosen for the aerodynamic elements , but also the colors of the cars in their maximum splendor under the sun that bathes the circuit, such as the curious combination of blue and pink that decorates Fernando Alonso’s Alpine. It is due to the new sponsor for this season, although it will only use these colors from the third race, since they will use a special decoration in the first two.
It is not the first time that the vast majority of teams have put their cars on the asphalt, as many have taken advantage of what are known as filming days at circuits of their choice to offer their drivers the first contact with the single-seaters they will use in 2022. However, it is the first time that we have been able to see the ten teams that make up the grid share the track.
One of the most surprising cars to date has been the Red Bull, a team always at the forefront of innovation, which has appeared on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with a radical design and very different from what had been revealed during the presentation. The details of the car that Max Verstappen will use to defend his championship crown have not left anyone indifferent on this first day of testing.
