Too much noise is bad for the heart

ruido-corazon Too much noise in your workplace? Noisy companies double employees' risk of heart disease, according to a new study published in the British Medical Journal .

To reach this conclusion, the scientists, led by Wen Qi Gan, from the University of British Columbia (Canada), analyzed the health of six thousand employees over the age of 20 who were part of the National Health and Nutrition Study of the United States between 1999 and 2004. The data revealed that workers who were in a place with a lot of noise were two or even three times more likely to have serious heart problems, compared to those who worked in spaces with moderate sounds. Specifically, it increased the risk of suffering from angina pectoris, myocardial infarction and hypertension . Blood cholesterol levels were not altered by the excess noise.

Following the results, Qi Gan and his colleagues conclude that noise is an important occupational health issue that deserves special attention.
