Smart packaging is basically of two types. The so-called assets are plastic or cardboard containers with chemical substances that extend the life of their contents , by preventing them from going rancid or moldy.
The other class of containers are the properly intelligent ones , as they incorporate a device that changes color when its content changes its organoleptic characteristics, such as taste, or loses its nutritional properties. In the United States, Japan and other countries, buns and cakes packaged in a plastic rich in antioxidants are already on the market, as well as milk bottles that change color when it turns sour.
