Coitalgia, dyspareunia or painful intercourse are certain discomforts suffered by both women and men during sexual intercourse, making it painful or difficult. The causes of this sexual dysfunction can be organic or psychosomatic in origin.
Female dyspareunia is associated with infections and diseases of the genitals, and irritations caused by the IUD and other contraceptives. In man, the pain usually appears due to a hypersensitivity of the glans , lack of hygiene and phimosis.
