What is the record label for?

The great nightmare of DVD video and record companies is piracy, that is, illegal copies. One of the proposals that are being considered to tackle this problem, which generates multimillion-dollar losses, is in the so-called holographic seal or water mark . It is a digital mark that can be inserted into digital image or sound recordings in order to safeguard copyright or copyright .

But for this anti-piracy system to be effective, CD, DVD and DVD video recorders must have a detector capable of reading the holographic seal in order to prevent fraudulent copying. The system is completed with a reproduction control mechanism that allows the viewing or hearing of the recording that has been identified as legal by the detector, after searching for and identifying the corresponding holographic seal. In the case of not finding it, the device does not reproduce.

In this sense, Philips has already decided to adopt a system of these characteristics, called Millenium . Its detection circuits will be incorporated into one of the chips of the new DVD-video recorders. A similar water mark will prevent copies of the next generation of high-quality CDs, the super audio CD.
