The gecko's foot contains millions of tiny fibers with tiny pads at the tips that are only 200 billionths of a meter thick. But geckos do not use, like insects, suction or slimy secretions to hold on, rather they rely on the almost imperceptible molecular interactions that work over short distances. That is, the tips come so close to the surface as to be attracted by the weak molecular forces at their fulcrum. Those fibers are so strong that they can lift weights of 127 kilos.
