Why is urine yellow?

The yellowish-amber color of human urine is due to certain metabolic wastes that reach the kidneys, such as urea , bilirubin, and creatinine.

Generally, the color of urine remains stable within a range, regardless of the tone of the drink or food eaten. This is because most of the substances that make up the diet have an organic origin and are metabolized by the body, transforming into carbon dioxide, water and urea. However, the intake of foods rich in carotene – carrots, beets – and certain medications, such as sulfisoxazole and amitriptyline, are capable of staining the urine blue, brown, orange, green and other colors.
