1,200 euros per month – without having to work. What does that do to people? This is to be tested starting today with an experiment over three years.
Berlin – An unconditional basic income is discussed again and again at the political level. A majority in favor is not yet in sight, but the tendency for it is getting stronger. The association “Mein Grundeinkommen” has therefore started an experiment to research common goods together with the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) and the Max Planck Institute. The aim of the study is to find out what working without money does to people.

For this, 122 people across Germany were selected after a long process. From Tuesday, June 1st, participants will receive an unconditional basic income of 1200 euros per month for three years.
Pilot project on unconditional basic income: More than two million applications
When the long-term study was advertised, the search engine Google recorded 5000 percent more search queries in Germany. In total, more than two million people applied for the long-term study. The project is financed by donations from more than 140,000 private individuals.
Through regular surveys of the participants, the scientists want to find out how their everyday lives will change as a result of the additional money. The focus is on working life, finances, the family and relationships, social contacts or possible psychological changes, among other things. Hair samples should also be evaluated to analyze the stress level. * Kreiszeitung.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA. (With material from the dpa)
