According to a survey, the past year was anything but a good year for almost half of those surveyed.

Berlin – Corona, flood, humanitarian crises: 2021 was not a good year for around half of the people in Germany.

According to a survey, 48 percent felt the past twelve months were rather bad or very bad, said the polling institute YouGov. On the other hand, 40 percent of those questioned looked back positively.

Apart from the corona pandemic, the flood disaster in western Germany was the event of the year for just under a third (29 percent) of those surveyed, followed by the general election (19 percent). 6 percent saw the takeover of power by the Taliban in Afghanistan as the defining event of the past year.

Former Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) was the most popular politician for 22 percent of those surveyed during the last of her 16 years in office. In second place in the survey came Germany’s new Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) with 11 percent, followed by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD, 9 percent) and Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU, 7 percent). dpa
