30-second way home: the student takes a taxi 200 meters every day

A schoolgirl in Lower Saxony takes a taxi 200 meters home from the bus stop every day: the 30-second way home is not a solution for her mother.

Billingshausen-Bovenden – Silvija Borko and her daughter Tjaša had to get creative. Because the B446 runs in front of her house, the nine-year-old has to take a taxi to the bus stop every day. From there, the further way by bus is no longer a problem. The way to the stop is only 200 meters long. The journey takes 30 seconds. There is no footpath or bike path.

Every afternoon, the elementary school pupil is picked up at the bus stop in Billingshausen, a district of the Flecken Bovenden (district of Göttingen), and driven home from there. The district bears the costs. Borko does not want to let her daughter go over the green strip next to the main road. Overtaking maneuvers by motorists and the increased occurrence of passing trucks mean that the risk is too high. This is what the mother describes for the radio station Antenne Niedersachsen.

No sidewalk next to the B446 in Lower Saxony? Mother thinks this is a danger to everyone

Borko has long known that the situation cannot stay that way. She calls for a different solution. Preferably a sidewalk along the main road. According to Antenne Niedersachsen, it all started about a year ago: Silvija Borko and her daughter Tjaša needed new accommodation. The apartment in the house on the main road seemed perfect, but the first part of the way to school turned out to be problematic.

The district bears the costs for the daily taxi ride and Borko is grateful for that. Nevertheless, she finds the missing sidewalk dangerous – not only for her daughter, but also for the neighbors: “I see older people walking in the Feldmark, I see young women crossing the street with horses. A boy has just been out and about on the federal highway with his bicycle. ”In her opinion, the perfect solution would be a sidewalk for everyone.

Lower Saxony: Way next to B446 in work – but “a process of an estimated four years”

The state authority says that the issue is already being dealt with. An uncomplicated gravel path was discarded, however, because there was no space for it and road users would be endangered by the loose stones.

A bike path would be the alternative – and already in the planning stage. The Flecken Bovenden is planning such a cycle path, but this is “a process that will take an estimated four years,” says Mayor Thomas Brandes to Antenne Niedersachsen.

Brandes has a lot of understanding for mother and daughter, but you have to follow the usual steps: This includes the question of which side a path makes sense, and the planning process to involve the public. Silvija Borko is still hoping for a quick solution. (jey)

During the corona pandemic, the Verkehrsverbund Südniedersachsen used more buses – the additional trips should prevent school buses that are too full *. * Hna.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
