Sydney – Australian police arrested two suspected drug traffickers in connection with the seizure of large quantities of heroin in Thailand.
One of the men, a 38-year-old from Sydney, is said to be one of the “greatest threats to organized crime” in Australia, said the National Police (AFP). The arrested had planned to smuggle around 314 kilos of heroin from Thailand down under. To do this, they would have used encrypted platforms. One of the services was Anom, a communication platform monitored by AFP officers and FBI agents.
The Thai customs authorities discovered the drugs on July 5 when they were examining a sea freight container destined for Queensland in northeastern Australia. The heroin was hidden in 135 paint cans. According to police, it is valued at 117 million Australian dollars. The men could face life imprisonment, it said. dpa
