1. Sea turtles can live from 80 to 100 years . Aquatic turtles kept as pets can reach 20 years of age. The wild terrestrial ones between 50 and 80 years.
2. Turtles have ears although they do not have an external auditory canal .
3. They do not have teeth but a very sharp beak with which they crush food.
4. Tortoises breathe by moving their front legs and neck as their rib cage is fixed. The aquatic ones also use the final part of the intestine to breathe. Most turtles are able to hold their breath underwater.
5. Some scientists argue that the first turtle appeared almost 215 million years ago .
