A crowdfunding campaign to test if we live in a simulation

0

The project has raised $ 236,590 thanks to 1,127 sponsors interested in delving into the theory of whether we live in a Matrix-like simulation. And it is that a team of physicists is convinced that they believe they can find out.

Simulation theory says that if humans (or another species) continue to advance for hundreds, thousands, or even millions of years, it is quite certain that it will have a lot of computing power under its belt. If we expanded into the galaxy (or even further), we could harness the power of stars, or possibly even black holes. With all this energy and computing development, it is likely that at some point our descendants will be curious enough to run "ancestor simulations."

Are we living in a computer simulation?

In 2017, a team of physicists proposed some methods to find out in their paper "On Testing Simulation Theory" with varying degrees of complexity. His idea is based on the assumption that the simulation would have limited resources, so it would not be simulating everything in the universe at the same time, so there would be parts of the simulation that would be being observed by a "player" at that time. The key to solving the puzzle would be figuring out when the information would be available to us observers.

If we discover that we are not living in a simulation, it would also have implications. We will see what all this results in knowing now that the crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter has been a success.
