A mother of premature triplets shares her difficult but happy breastfeeding story

Every breastfeeding story is unique, and it’s not always a bed of roses, especially when it comes to breastfeeding three babies at the same time. But this is a beautiful story that, although it has not been easy, has been happy breastfeeding for six months. It is that of Nina Dufrenne, a 27-year-old mother and her triplets Aubree, Emma and Louis, who were born premature in January, at 29 weeks’ gestation.

The babies had to stay in intensive care for 55 days and were tube fed for eight weeks. Nina recalls seeing her triplets in ICU and feeling helpless “I couldn’t touch them,” she told TODAY Parents. “The only thing I could do for them was give them milk . So I think I’m a little emotionally attached to that. “And so she did. She began pumping milk 24 hours a day to feed her babies.

A viral video on Tik Tok

Last month they completed six months of successful breastfeeding, and to celebrate, the mother shared a video on Tik Tok that quickly went viral for the beautiful story of perseverance, determination and love it represents.

In the video you can see lots of containers full of expressed milk, photos of her expressing milk, storing it, giving it to her babies and directly breastfeeding her babies. Images that summarize since the premature babies were in the ICU until the healthy and happy babies months later in the company of their older sister.

As the images are viewed, you can also see discouraging comments that the mother has received from some people.

“I wanted to show that it is possible”

Despite the many congratulations she has received for successfully breastfeeding under such difficult circumstances, it was not all support for the mother, as many thought she would not make it and warned her how tough the road could be.

“We do not see triplet mothers successfully breastfeed, but you can try”, “You will never sleep again”, “Is it really possible to produce milk for three?” Or “They will love you all the time” are some of the comments negatives you received.

But she was never discouraged and in order to achieve it, she continued steadily, not without difficulties. Nina has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a condition that can disrupt hormones, menstrual cycles, and in some cases can also affect milk supply.

“We are capable of much more than the world gives us credit for. I wanted to breastfeed because I love breastfeeding and I am passionate about experiencing that magic with each of my babies. It was definitely a lot of work, but it also brought a lot of joy.”

The mother says that she usually breastfed two babies per feeding and then expressed milk for the third. And he wanted to leave a message for other mothers:

“Breeding is not an all or nothing test. I hate the word ‘exclusive’. My babies have taken milk through feeding tubes, breasts and bottles. I would have given it to them through syringes if that helps them thrive. No matter how you feed your baby, if you are doing your best and your baby is loved and happy, you are an amazing mother. We deserve to hear that more often. “
