A trip to the past with the Citroën CX

0

Citroën has a rich history of more than 100 years full of global successes, exceptional cars and technological solutions that deserve to be remembered. Among the most iconic and innovative models that we can highlight from this centenary is the CX, a ‘made in Spain’ manufactured in Vigo . In fact, it is one of the great jewels of the brand, characterized by an elegant and aerodynamic line that is still modern today. The Citroën CX was an E-segment car, manufactured between 1974 (the year it was presented at the Paris Motor Show) and 1991.

The presentation to the press of this model in its year was maintained in the traditional Citroën style, with a first car ready in July 1974 painted in a suggestive sand color and featuring candy-colored velvet interiors. He will always be remembered because, with him, the first photos were taken. But it was not the only one, since that summer it was joined by another 27 CXs that, transported in four trucks, moved discreetly from the French manufacturer’s facilities in Paris to the outskirts of Gällivare, a characteristic municipality located 100 km from the Circle Arctic Polar, in Lapland. Specifically, the sand-colored CXs were 2000 versions while the 2200s (some of them equipped with the DIRAVI, the name Citroën gave to its power-return power steering system as well, first seen in the ’70s ) had a metallic Blue Delta body with a teal interior.

And that is how Jacques Wolgensinger , director of public relations for Citroën, particularly inspired (he was the ideologue of the great 2CV raids) welcomed 400 journalists from 13 countries divided into groups of 50 who arrived by plane to Lapland where they were able to admire the new Citroën and test it on the road on a 420 km route: an announced success thanks to the silence inside the passenger compartment, the driving comfort and, not least, the contained consumption.
