A3 near Cologne: full closure after hydrochloric acid accident – highly corrosive chemical leaked

The A3 near Cologne in the direction of Frankfurt has been completely closed since Thursday due to a hydrochloric acid accident. The fire brigade is still on duty on Friday.

Cologne – The Cologne fire brigade has been on a large scale operation on the A3 since Thursday evening: A truck loaded with 24 tons of hydrochloric acid has a leaking weld seam where the highly corrosive chemical has escaped and evaporated, the fire brigade said on Friday morning. This leads to a complete closure between Dreieck Heumar and Kreuz Bonn/Siegburg in the direction of Frankfurt.

Car traffic is backed up on Friday afternoon for around eight kilometers in the direction of Frankfurt from Cologne-East and for around eight kilometers in the direction of Cologne (as of 2:02 p.m.). According to Verkehr.NRW , the closure should last until 8 p.m. (jw)
