Münster / Berlin – Another success for the investigators in the abuse case in Münster: On Tuesday evening, a suspect who the police had been looking for with a photo presented himself.

The 37-year-old man was arrested in Berlin without resistance, said the police in Münster. Due to the great pressure to be searched, the man reported by telephone to the police immediately before the arrest in the presence of his lawyer.

Detained seen on video files

The 37-year-old can be seen on several seized image and video files. “These show serious sexual abuse of an unknown male toddler,” the investigators told the investigative commission “Rose”.

At the request of the public prosecutor’s office, a judge issued a public search decision. After the mug shot was published, the police received almost four dozen notifications via the information hotline and by email. Several had specifically indicated that the person wanted could be the 37-year-old from Berlin.

Three major abuse cases

Alongside Lügde and Bergisch Gladbach, Münster is one of three major abuse cases in North Rhine-Westphalia in recent years. The case came to light in June 2020 after investigations into a gazebo. In the course of this, there had been arrests in several federal states and abroad.

Five men have already been sentenced to prison terms in the complex. In total, the investigators identified more than 50 suspects, around 30 of whom are currently in custody. The main trial continued on Tuesday with further appeals. The prosecution calls for the alleged main culprit, an IT expert from Münster, 14 years in prison and subsequent preventive detention due to the risk of recurrence. A judgment at the Münster Regional Court is expected at the end of June at the earliest. dpa
