Aeromar workers extend the strike call again

The pilots and flight attendants of the Aeromar airline again extended a strike call scheduled for today, which will now be voted on April 6, after months of postponing a work stoppage that could result from salary and benefit cuts.

In a statement, the Trade Union Association of Aviator Pilots (ASPA) of Mexico, which has indicated debts of 9 million pesos (mdp) after a non-agreed salary cut of 10%, reported the union’s decision.

“By virtue of the fact that ways are still being explored to repair the contractual violations incurred by the airline, the strike call is postponed for next April 6,” ASPA said in a statement.

Likewise, the Union Association of Aviation Flight Attendants (ASSA), which claims similar debts for 16 million pesos, reported that they will continue in dialogue with the Aeromar administration, which has been carried out with the intervention of government institutions.

“We will continue to request government support through our constitutional president, Lic. Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the teacher Luisa Ma. Alcalde, head of the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS), as well as Mr. Jorge Arganís Díaz Leal , Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), with the aim of sensitizing the company board so that it complies with the already agreed payment agreements, for the benefit of the families of the flight attendants at the service of Aeromar”, said Ricardo del Valle Solares, general secretary of ASSA, quoted in the statement.

Aeromar workers are heading for a year of different strike locations, despite having reached different salary and benefit payment agreements with the company.

The airline assures that it is in the process of attracting a capital injection of between 50 and 100 million dollars, as part of a growth strategy that would seek to triple the fleet in the next five years, going from 10 to 30 aircraft, with which would seek to expand their presence and enter new markets. However, this investment has not materialized.
