Aeroméxico will advance its operation at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), where it planned to fly from April with two routes, which will now be operational from the opening of the airport on March 21.

“After having carried out the necessary coordination with the authorities and administrators of the Felipe International Airport (AIFA) successfully and in less time than projected, the company informs that it will start operations in the new air terminal as of its inauguration, next March 21,” the company said in a statement.

Ticket sales will be available starting next week. Initially, Aeroméxico contemplates two daily routes from the AIFA to Mérida and Villahermosa.

Although initially the airline did not plan to fly into the airport that is still being built in Santa Lucía, mainly because it did not adapt to its operations model, on February 9 it announced the two routes as part of an analysis of the “needs of its customers”. .

“The decision is the result of the analysis of the network, location and customer needs, as well as the use of the airport infrastructure in that terminal, which opens as a new option for air connectivity to and from the center of the Mexican Republic” he said at the time in a statement.

Aeromexico became the third Mexican airline to confirm its presence at AIFA, after Volaris was the first to announce two routes to Cancun and Tijuana, followed by Viva Aerobus with flights to Monterrey and Guadalajara.

However, some foreign airlines such as American Airlines, Air Canada and Copa Airlines have ruled out flying in Saint Lucia.
