The Spanish Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Entities (Unespa) has developed the ‘We are Safe’ study to assess safety in municipalities with more than 75,000 inhabitants to determine which is the safest city in Spain. For this, the experts have evaluated three elements that can be insured (traffic accidents, thefts and fires) and have taken as a basis the data collected by insurers in 2019 and 2020. Albacete is the safest city from Spain!

In order to make a classification, the researchers have reflected the probability of suffering an incident with a score out of a maximum of 10 . The higher the rating, the safer the city.

Well, the safest city in Spain according to data collected by insurers is Albacete . It has achieved a very good score in all three categories and, according to the study, it is largely due to the prudence and responsibility shown by its inhabitants.

Albacete is a city in Castilla-La Mancha of almost 175,000 inhabitants. The municipality is the seventh largest in all of Spain. Currently Albacete is a very modern city, with large green areas and hardly any architectural barriers. It is considered one of the most accessible, safest cities with the highest quality of life in the entire country.

Traffic accidents

One of the main elements of analysis is the probability of suffering a traffic accident in the urban area . The safest cities in terms of road safety are: Zaragoza, San Sebastián and Orihuela. To reach this conclusion, both simple mishaps, such as sheet metal blows, and serious collisions, in which injuries and even deaths occur, have been assessed.

Robberies

Regarding the probability of a robbery, according to the Unespa study, the municipalities where this type of mishaps are less common are: Pontevedra, San Cristóbal de la Laguna and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria .

Fires

And finally, the fires. The city where a property or vehicle is least likely to catch fire is Arona, on the island of Tenerife. They are followed by Orihuela and Torrevieja , both municipalities in the province of Alicante. Fires were given less weight in the study because they are a less common incident.

Therefore, according to this study, Albacete is the safest city in Spain .
