Alec Baldwin shoots camerawoman: armorer sues prop master

Actor Alec Baldwin rehearses on set with a supposedly safe weapon, but a camerawoman is fatally hit. Now there are new developments.

Santa Fe – Less than three months after the fatal incident on the set of the Hollywood film “Rust”, the gunsmith has sued a prop master. The court in the US state of New Mexico announced that the civil suit was received on Wednesday (January 12th, 2022). The complaint has been submitted to the German Press Agency. Actor Alec Baldwin had been rehearsing for a scene with a gun that investigations revealed was loaded with live ammunition instead of blank cartridges.

This is exactly what the lawsuit is about: The armorer accuses a man who had supplied props and ammunition for “Rust” with having provided live ammunition in a box designated for dummy cartridges. The prop company denied the delivery of live ammunition in the Los Angeles Times in November.

Alec Baldwin: prop supplier in focus of fatal shot

In the incident during the filming of the low-budget western “Rust” on a film ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico, chief cinematographer Halyna Hutchins (42) was fatally injured on October 21 and director Joel Souza was hit in the shoulder . Alec Baldwin, who is working as a lead actor and producer on the film, fired the gun during rehearsal for a scene. Investigations revealed that there was a real bullet in the Colt. In an emotional interview a short time later, Baldwin said he had “not pulled the trigger”.

Police investigations are continuing. The lawyers of the gun master in focus had brought “sabotage” into play in November. Someone could have put a live ammunition bullet in a box of harmless dummy cartridges to sabotage the shoot, lawyer Jason Bowles said in a TV interview at the time. The gun master had denied allegations of negligence on the set. (ial / dpa)
