Aleix Espargaró leads Silverstone FP3

Aleix Espargaró, candidate for the title and second overall with Aprilia, gave a warning at the end of FP3, the training session that marks the cut to go directly to Q2, leading the time sheet, lowering Friday’s times by one second and the record for the Silverstone pole, which was scored last year by his brother Pol Espargaró, who failed to get past 17th position in a new collapse for the Hondas.

Jorge Martín, in an almost perfect last lap, placed second, 28 thousandths behind Aleix, beating Jack Miller, third, as the first Ducati, and his teammate Johann Zarco, who was fourth and crashed just when he had been improving the time in the last seconds of training.

Maverick Viñales finished with the fifth fastest time ahead of the World Championship leader, Fabio Quartararo, against whom he wants to work until the end of the season to help his teammate Aleix. Pecco Bagnaia, who had a scuffle with Aleix when meeting his Aprilia in the middle of the track in the final part of the session, managed to improve to finish 7th and sneak into Q2 directly.

Also making the cut were Joan Mir, Luca Marini and Alex Rins, who was tenth placing both Suzukis in Q2.

The rest of the drivers on the grid will have to go through Q1, with Marco Bezzecchi 11th, ahead of Enea Bastianini, who once again tried the new aerodynamic package with the wings on the rear tail and that Martín already ruled out yesterday and did not ride today . Franco Morbidelli made a jump, but finished 13th, ahead of Miguel Oliveira, who after being fast on Friday, failed to be as fast this Saturday.

Alex Márquez finished as the first Honda in the times, 15th, with Pol 17th and Takaaki Nakagami 20th. Brad Binder will also have to go through Q2 after finishing 19th. Raúl Fernández, who improved his time from yesterday, could only finally be 23rd.

As far as the tires are concerned, the choice of the medium rear tire was the general one until the final part of the training session, in which all the riders mounted a soft rear and front tire, except Aleix, Maverick, Oliveira and Binder, who opted for the front middle rubber.
