Aleix Espargaró: "Someone from safety came a month and a half ago and said the track was fine"

The Aprilia rider is one of the members of the grid that speaks the clearest; and even more so in days as disastrous as this Saturday. In just two days, Espargaró crashed four times, and in qualifying he could not get past the 19th fastest time, which will make him start from the seventh row of the grid.

The Granollers (Barcelona) runner was one of the clearest this Friday, lamenting the state of the asphalt of the Texas circuit, plagued by potholes, some of them huge. From the first moment, the Catalan said that the Circuit of the Americas did not meet the safety standards that the MotoGP World Championship deserves, and that under normal circumstances it should not be raced.

However, these complaints are not new, but have been repeated over the last four years, without a solution having been found, beyond putting goops and patches.

Last Friday, at the traditional meeting of the Security Commission , the main topic of debate revolved around the pressure that the championship promoter must be subjected to so that it fixes once and for all such a crucial aspect as this, and that has so much to do with security, on everyone’s lips after the latest misfortunes.

Regarding the Safety Commission, apart from a couple of drivers for whom everything is super fun and they have a great time with the potholes, the rest of us get very angry and agree that the track is very dangerous, and that it is unacceptable to race here. If next year there is no solution, we are not going to come to race, and 95% of the riders agree on that”, revealed the Catalan.

“They have promised us that, at a minimum, they will resurface from turn 2 to 10. They asked us what had to be done so that we could return next year. And we said that, at a minimum, the section that goes from curve 2 to 10 must be resurfaced. And they have promised us that, if they do not do it, in 2022 we will not come”, the Spaniard deepened.

“We give our opinion, but the promoter of the championship is Dorna , and it is Dorna who has to do something before a tragedy occurs. There is a lot of talk about safety first. Now we will see”, #41 continued, very annoyed by the little reaction to the complaints of recent years.

“We complained in 2018 and we complained in 2019, and they are putting little patches. That can not be. Someone from safety came here a month and a half ago and said the track was fine. And, as far as I know, there hasn’t been an earthquake since then, so the circuit was just as impassable as it is now”, settled Espargaró.
