Alex Márquez: "It's frustrating not to have the support of Honda"

The youngest of the Márquez brothers will leave, at the end of the season, to be a Honda rider after three years, one in the official team, and two in the LCR satellite formation, a journey in which he has gone from more to less, condemned due to the obvious loss of competitiveness of the RC213V.

This Friday, at the start of the MotoGP Aragon Grand Prix, Marc Márquez reappeared after almost three and a half months off and ended up being the fastest rider of the brand on the time sheets, placing 8th in the combined times of the first two free practices of the weekend. Takaaki Nakagami, who this week has been confirmed for 2023 in LCR, finished 11th, while Alex Márquez did so in 18th position and Pol Espargaró, in a disconcerting 23rd place.

Marc Márquez was asked, in his appearance before the media, about that detail, to which he did not want to give more relevance.

The same question was put to Alex Márquez at the end of the day this Friday in Aragón, and if the fact that Marc was the first Honda to be repaired was frustrating for the rest of the brand’s riders.

“It’s frustrating not having the support I would like from Honda. That’s the truth. I understand the situation, next year I’m leaving. But I have a contract until the end of the year and it’s been a few races since we’ve had anything. It’s frustrating see that they don’t support you”, lamented the Moto3 and Moto2 world champion and double podium in his debut in the queen class, in 2020.

On Marc’s reappearance, Alex was more optimistic.

“I have seen him well, as I expected and more in this circuit. Seeing how he was already in Misano, a circuit that he is good at but is not one of his favorites, here I already expected him to be at this level, we have also seen that is testing things and they seem to work, which is a good sign for them.”

On the start of the grand prix, the LCR explained that the set-up did not work.

“In the afternoon the grip improved and we were much better than in the morning. Whatever the basic setup we had, it didn’t work as expected. We came from Misano, where there was a lot of grip, and here it was difficult for us. We are far away, We will try to understand a little with other Honda riders where we are lacking, but between now and the end of the year it will be difficult for us to compare ourselves with Marc and Nakagami, because they will wear different things and the reality will never be known, but with what we have we have to get something more,” he settled.
