Although the Italian manufacturer recently rejoined Formula 1, it should be remembered that Alfa Romeo has a long history in the great circus, as it was one of the teams that was present at the start of the category as an officially regulated sport.
In addition, the “Clover Quadrifoglio” team won the first two drivers’ championships with Farina and Fangio in 1950 and 1951, writing its name in gold letters in the highest category of motorsport.
After a long break in its activity, Alfa Romeo returned to competition in 1979, but again left the category a few years later, specifically in 1985 due to some rather disappointing results.
However, in 2015, 2016 and 2017 they began to gradually approach F1 by placing their logos on the Ferrari engine cover, until in 2018 Alfa Romeo and Sauber joined forces under Sergio Marchionne with a technical partnership and commercial. A year later, the Swiss team included the Italians’ name in its name and was renamed Alfa Romeo Racing .
