Alonso explains the reason for his pink helmet in F1 in 2022

Fernando Alonso surprised all his fans on the first date of the year, at the 2022 F1 Bahrain Grand Prix, when he presented a completely different helmet design than the one he had worn in his career.

The two-time champion had always worn the colors blue and yellow, except for some special occasions or in the 2007 season, when he signed for McLaren and used the shades of black, white and gray to combine with the silver car.

Following Alpine’s deal with BWT to be its main sponsor from the 2022 campaign at the Grand Circus, the French added pink to their A522, the corporate color of the water treatment company.

Alonso also decided to add pink to his helmet, and through a publication on Alpine’s social networks, he gave a detailed explanation of why this modification was made to such a personal element: “I have decided to change the design for this year and use the pink helmet in collaboration with BWT, which is obviously our title sponsor for this season, along with the team.”

“I am very excited about the whole project they have, and I share many of their ideas, so I wanted to support them in this regard,” said the Spaniard. “It’s very difficult to please everyone, I know I’ve had a very iconic helmet, with my colours, and people recognize me because of the blue and yellow, but I think people don’t understand the meaning behind this change.

Fernando Alonso is also the founder of Kimoa , a company specializing in fashion made from recycled materials, so he finds the point in defending the cause and fighting against pollution: “I very much support the actions that BWT is doing with plastic bottles, I know that it is something that we must stop, it is late, but it is never too late to improve the situation on our planet”.

“We have to stop this and clean up our oceans, because having a better world for everyone is very important,” Alpine continued. “They also have very interesting projects to offer safe and drinkable water in Africa, especially in some countries, where they are building buildings and fountains so that people can drink water.”

“I think that this work is the meaning of the helmet, of the design that I wear, and I am very proud to support this type of action. Sustainability is an issue that I take into account in everything I do, in the different companies or projects , especially with Kimoa, where it has been a priority, and we all need to understand this, that we have a world and that we have to take care of it,” Alonso explained in the video of just over two minutes published by the French team, but not before saying goodbye with a “perfect” enthusiast as the end of the recording of his new pink helmet.
