June is the ‘month of pride’, and Formula 1 wants to join in supporting a group that unfortunately is still persecuted. Mercedes announced that it will wear a star supporting the LGTBIQ+ community this month, and Alpine has gone further.

The French team revealed this Thursday, ahead of the 2022 F1 Azerbaijan GP, that it has partnered with Racing Pride , the initiative to “promote LGTBIQ+ inclusion through motorsport”.

Alpine will carry out a series of initiatives together with Racing Pride, and at the moment the one they have announced is that the car will carry the rainbow of the LGTBIQ+ collective throughout the month of June, that is, in Baku, but also in Canada .

In addition, they suggested that there will be “other nods to the community” throughout the team. Among them, the members of Alpine who want can show off rainbow-colored laces and pins on their sneakers. And beyond the circuits, the Enstone factory will fly the rainbow flag.

“Through this partnership, Alpine aims to understand the challenges facing the LGBTIQ+ community in motorsports, how it can create an inclusive environment for LGBTIQ+ members, and play a role in advancing progress across the sport.” the statement said.

Racing Pride has already reviewed the team’s policies and has proposed initiatives to improve the diversity and inclusion of the team not only in this month of June. A diversity and inclusion committee has also been established, made up of members of the collective, people of various races and women and single-parent families.

Additionally, a survey of Alpine members conducted in late 2021 revealed a “male-dominated legacy culture with a strong prank culture.”

No further details of the decoration of the Alpine A522 with the colors of the LGTBIQ+ collective have yet been revealed, but in the photos that the team has uploaded, the rainbow can be seen on the engine cover fin, next to Fernando Alonso’s 14, and also next to 31 Esteban Ocon.

Alpine’s CEO, Laurent Rossi , stated that one has to “look forward and challenge the biases we see in motorsport”.

“The LGBTQ+ community has lacked visible representation and support within our industry, and we need to change that. We want Alpine to be an open, inclusive and productive workplace and for our employees to feel happy and supported in their workplace.” happy environment gives greater creativity and that’s exactly what we need to encourage as we move forward.

“To do so, we must fully understand the challenges facing some of motorsport’s underrepresented groups. Pride Month is a great time to start; we know we need to do more to give this community a voice and representation.” .
