Alpine's objective in F1 2022 after the French GP

At the 2022 Formula 1 French Grand Prix, Alpine posted its second-best score of the season to date, 12 points thanks to Fernando Alonso’s sixth place finish and teammate Esteban Ocon’s eighth place finish.

Thanks to these units that have been added to the Enstone team’s locker, the French have managed to overtake McLaren in the constructors’ standings, climbing to fourth place, only behind Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes.

Judging by the performance of the French team, it could be said that fourth place really reflects Alpine’s position in the current grid pecking order, as if it weren’t for the mechanical problems suffered by its drivers, more Alonso , perhaps even they could have a much greater margin with respect to their most immediate pursuers.

After the French Grand Prix, the home race for Alpine , which allowed it to rise to fourth position in the world championship, Laurent Rossi , head of the French structure, spoke about the team’s objective for the rest of the 2022 season of the Formula 1.

“Now our objective is clear: we must do everything possible to stay in fourth place in the constructors’ championship. It will not be easy, but we have to continue to make improvements to the car and complete good weekends, as we have done in France.”

Speaking more specifically about this Sunday’s race at the Paul Ricard circuit, the French director was very satisfied with the objective result and the performances of his drivers, both Alonso and Ocon .

“We are very happy to have achieved this great result with both cars in our home race. Especially since this allows us to place fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, which, it must be said, is well deserved.”

“We needed a good start to the race and we got it. Fernando did a great job of overtaking Lando Norris at the start and then managed his race brilliantly to take all eight points by finishing sixth.”

“Esteban also made a good start but was hampered by his collision with Tsunoda on the first lap. He had to stay focused to recover and his patience and ability to make the right decisions at all times were key to finishing eighth.”

At the moment, Alpine ‘s lead over McLaren in the constructors’ standings is just four points (93-89), while its deficit to the team just ahead in third place, Mercedes , is by above 150 units, something that makes it practically impossible to dream of a better result.
