An elevator connecting Earth and space could be feasible now

With Virgin Galactic or Blue Origin already focused on commercial space tourism, many people will want to see Earth from above. Now, a team of Japanese researchers led by Yoshio Aoki, from Nihon University, is considering how a space elevator could be built since, although it is a rather remote idea, they believe it is too good an idea to miss. And now it is feasible.

How could you build a space elevator?

For this group of experts, there have been considerable advances in recent years that allow the possibility of its construction. So even though the cost in terms of investment, resources and time would be considerable, as well as the logistical and engineering challenges, we could still have space-based solar energy, habitats in orbit, cities on the Moon. and Mars, and much more.

As summarized by Arthur C. Clarke in his speech to the 30th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in 1979, entitled "The Space Elevator: 'Thought Experiment or Key to the Universe?'" It seems that now we have the possibility to raise it without having to think about science fiction infrastructures , but it could even make transporting humans into space a much cheaper service than current rockets.
