Anger in the Federation with the Government for not vaccinating the Spanish team

0

Discomfort. Indignation. Anguish. This is what has been breathed in the Ciudad del Fútbol of Las Rozas since it became known on Sunday afternoon that Sergio Busquets had tested positive for coronavirus in the last PCR tests carried out on the Spanish team. The news, which fell like a jug of cold water within the national team, was known after the meal that the whole team had at the El Trasgu restaurant in Torrelodones, a town very close to Las Rozas.

It was the first day off from the concentration and to comply with the Covid measures they could not get together with the families, so they decided to carry out this activity to abandon the day-to-day routine . The test result made the food watery. The members of the national team returned to the residence, while Busquets was transferred in an ambulance to his home in Barcelona. At the same time, the anger that has been brewing for several weeks in the concentration on the government’s refusal to vaccinate the national team exploded.

Since the concentration in Las Rozas began, it is not understood why the players of the Spanish team have not been vaccinated , following the example of other countries such as Belgium or Italy. In the RFEF it is not understood that the Ministry of Health has refused to vaccinate internationals, while it has allowed the dose against the coronavirus to be supplied to Spanish athletes who will participate in the Olympic Games whether or not they have a guaranteed place . In football, the example is that of Marco Asensio: the Real Madrid player has been vaccinated despite the fact that his presence in Tokyo is far from assured. Luis Enrique, when asked about this in the run-up to the game against Portugal, responded very seriously: “I don’t have an interesting enough opinion.”

This situation has caused significant anger in the Spanish team. They do not understand the reason that has led the Government to leave out of the vaccination process a team that will defend the interests of the country in the next European Championship. Although the players are not in the age groups currently being vaccinated in our country, the RFEF considers that an agreement could have been reached. Now Spain will arrive much worse prepared – they will not be able to play against Lithuania and there will be scarce training sessions in difficult conditions – than their rivals in the Eurocup because of a government that has not wanted to protect them.
