He had been missing since August 9th. His body was found on the side of a country road. Juan Arjón López is at least the 14th journalist killed in Mexico this year.

San Luis Río Colorado – Another journalist has been killed in Mexico. Juan Arjón López suffered head injuries from blunt force trauma, the attorney general of the northwestern state of Sonora said after the autopsy.

Arjón is at least the 14th journalist killed in Mexico this year, according to the Article 19 organization on Twitter. 2022 is one of the bloodiest years for the press in the Latin American country.

Arjón ran the news page “A qué le temes” – translated: “What are you afraid of” on Facebook. There he provided information on local issues from the city of San Luis Río Colorado on the US border. His body was found on the side of a country road on Tuesday. As early as August 9, other reporters had reported his disappearance on social networks.

Mexico was the world’s most dangerous country for journalists in 2021 for the third year in a row. According to a report by Reporters Without Borders, seven journalists were killed in connection with their work last year. Drug cartels or corrupt local politicians are often behind the violence. dpa
