Ansbach (dpa) – A lecture hall at the university in Ansbach in Central Franconia is named after the actor Hannes Jaenicke.

The 61-year-old received this year’s education award from the university for his tireless and versatile commitment to education and sustainability, as the reason given on Wednesday said. The digital award ceremony is on Friday. The laudation will be held by the UN ambassador for peace, Jane Goodall, among others.

The university has been awarding the award, endowed with 2500 euros, since 2018. In previous years it went to the singer Lena Meyer-Landrut and the soccer player Philipp Lahm. In addition to the prize money, the award includes the fact that a lecture hall on campus bears the name of the prize winner for one year.

“There are prizes that make you happy because they are so surprising and because they honor you so much. This includes the idea of naming a lecture hall after me, ”says Jaenicke in his acceptance speech, according to the press release.

The prize money will go to Jaenicke’s environmental foundation “The Pelorus Jack Foundation”. According to the university, this must always flow into an educational project.
