Today, Anya Taylor-Joy is one of the most notorious and promising actresses on the film scene. But she was a complete stranger when back in 2015, she starred in Robert Eggers’ brilliant debut horror film The Witch . During an interview for Variety magazine’s Actors Are Actors series, the actress acknowledged that finishing the production of her film debut was what broke her heart for the first time.
“My first heartbreak was not a relationship. My first anguish was finishing my first job (In The Witch ) and experiencing that loss ”, confessed Taylor-Joy when asked what she was doing when filming ended. For her, it was saying goodbye to something more than coworkers, as she pointed out in the interview: “It was the loss of a world that existed with a group of people who became my everything for a period of time, and now it’s over . I had no idea how to deal with it. ” Anya Taylor-Joy went from the anonymity of The Witch to world recognition thanks, especially to her role as a chess player in Lady’s Gambit . The series has already won its corresponding Golden Globes and everything indicates that its protagonist will receive the long-awaited Emmy for being Beth Harmon. With this character, Taylor-Joy commented that she had not had the same problem since she assures that “spending seven episodes with Beth was good” although according to her “it sounds crazy”, she knows that having spent time with her makes her not feel cheated.
Being smaller, finishing The Witch broke her heart but on the horizon she has a character for whom she has to be mentally strong: Furious. The Mad Max spin off : Fury Road is in pre-production but the trio of the actress, Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II sounds very promising. Beyond the character that Charlize Theron already played in her adult version, Anya Taylor-Joy wants to work with her director: She is number one. That brain is amazing. I feel very fortunate and privileged to be able to spend time with him and to grow with him ”. Also on Anya Taylor-Joy’s agenda is her reunion with Eggers in The Northman , which will premiere in April 2022.
