While half of the adults have already received the first injection, many young people can only hope for a corona vaccination from June 7th. Second vaccinations are currently being given in particular.
Berlin (dpa) – In Germany, around every second adult is vaccinated against Corona at least once.
“Overall, we have been able to reach around 50 percent of all adults in Germany with an initial vaccination offer, ie with an initial vaccination,” said Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) on Tuesday in Berlin.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Tuesday, 43.3 percent (36 million) of people in Germany have at least one primary vaccination and 18 percent (15 million) have full vaccination protection. This is the proportion of all those vaccinated so far in the total population. According to the information, 511,097 new vaccinations were added on Monday. Of these, 337,478 were second vaccinations – around two thirds.
Up to 25 million more vaccinations expected
Spahn said that most people in Germany who want to be vaccinated would have their turn early in the summer. “We will now be able to receive and inoculate another 50 million doses from the manufacturer Biontech in June, July and August alone. That makes it possible to vaccinate the majority of those willing to vaccinate relatively early this summer. ”The Biontech deliveries during these three months correspond to roughly the number of all vaccination doses administered so far according to the RKI. As Spahn also announced in a tweet, he expects up to 25 million more vaccinations for June alone.
For people who are more at risk of a severe corona course, the vaccination campaign is particularly advanced thanks to the prioritization that will continue until next Monday, i.e. vaccination according to priority groups, according to Spahn. “Around 80 percent of all over 60-year-olds have already been vaccinated at least once.”
The vaccination rate varies depending on the federal state. The Saarland has the highest rate of at least first-time vaccinations with 46.5 percent. SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach recently criticized the fact that there was too little data on vaccination rates at the local level. Lauterbach warned of unrecognized vaccination gaps in the ARD magazine “Report Mainz” of local fourth corona waves.
RKI President dampens expectations that are too high
RKI President Lothar Wieler said the vaccinations alone were not enough to lift corona restrictions. “In order to be able to largely dispense with measures, more than 80 percent of the people in our country must have vaccination protection or have immune protection – either through a full vaccination or through an infection plus vaccination.”
After the vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer has been approved for children from 12 years of age, members of this age group could also be vaccinated in principle, said Spahn. The aim is to offer 12 to 18 year olds at least the first vaccination by the end of August. The vaccination remains an individual decision of the children and adolescents, their parents and doctors. The federal and state governments had stipulated that children aged 12 and over in Germany could be vaccinated from June 7th. So far, the Biontech vaccine was approved from 16.
According to Spahns, around 70,000 medical practices are currently involved in the corona vaccinations. From June 7th, employees can also be vaccinated against corona by the company doctors in thousands of companies. On the same day, vaccination prioritization is to be lifted in Germany, in some federal states this has already happened earlier.
