Aston Martin details the three aspects to improve in the AMR22

Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll both had major crashes during the Australian Grand Prix weekend, with the German hitting the circuit guards both in practice and in the race.

Subsequently, the team left a better feeling at Imola, a weekend in which they had no major problems and both drivers finished in the points, largely thanks to the efforts of their staff to improve the responses of the AMR22’s wheel.

However, that is still one of the issues that the team is trying to address with a series of updates, in addition to two others, being the three main focuses of work.

“We have three key points that we are working on,” Krack said. “One is aerodynamics, which is the most important, the second is the weight of the car, which is very important too. And the third is how can we provide better sensations or responses to our drivers?

“That refers to the suspension, steering and that kind of thing, the whole set-up of the car in general. We have to try to give the drivers a better feeling of the behavior of the car, so that they can use its full potential.” .

“This is also why I think we’ve had so many accidents to date, like for example in Melbourne, when we saw our drivers go off quite a bit, this is not normal. I mean, drivers of this quality don’t They go off the track all the time.”

“So I think we’ve already made a small step forward at Imola with some small updates, and we hope to bring more,” added the Silverstone team principal.

“I think a driver like Sebastian shouldn’t be competing for 16th or 18th position. I think after this weekend [at Imola], maybe he will have a little more passion and joy to drive this car.”

“But it’s also up to us to give him a car that is good enough that he can do what a driver of his level should do.”

Vettel also acknowledged that there was an improvement at Imola , but explained that more is needed.

“We didn’t put anything new in to improve performance,” he said after finishing eighth. “Until now we’ve had a problem with the steering feel and we were able to improve it slightly for this race. But it’s still a problem.”

“I think if you look at the onboard camera, our car is very difficult to drive, even on the straights, you have to be very focused. So yes, it is what it is,” Mike Krack concluded.
