August is a quiet month for Puerto Rico, but there are still many festivals to choose from. Come hungry as this is the month to celebrate important Puerto Rican foods.

Events calendar

  • August 11-12 : Puerto Rico’s 6th Annual Chocolate Festival celebrates all kinds of chocolate for two days in Mayagüez. There are tasting stations, demonstrations of the chocolate making process, chocolate displays, and more. For an additional fee, guests can purchase a VIP ticket that allows you to create your own chocolate bar and sample wine and chocolate pairings.
  • August 12 : Variations of the Sancocho dish are found throughout Latin America, but in Puerto Rico the dish is celebrated with a jazz festival. Sancocho’s fifth annual jazz festival takes place on the Arroyo boardwalk and featured several different artists.
  • August 31 to September 2 : Head to Corozal for the National Banana Festival or National Banana Festival . The three-day event will feature a variety of banana dishes along with live music and vendors.
  • August 31 to September 2 : Breadfruit, or pana, has its own festival in Humacao. For three days you can enjoy live music, buy a variety of breadfruit dishes, or shop at artisan stalls.
