Australia could cancel MotoGP and F1 in the next few hours

Australian Formula 1 and MotoGP races are not expected to take place later this year as planned due to the country's strict international border regulations.

Staff arriving from abroad would have to complete mandatory supervised quarantine for two weeks in order to enter the country, something neither category would likely accept.

Even if the drivers and the rest of the teams agreed to quarantine, it would be difficult to facilitate thanks to a new arrival limit due to problems with the hotel quarantine system and the Delta strain of COVID-19 .

The idea of a biosphere for the F1 race at Albert Park ( Melbourne) has been mooted twice, but it appears those talks with relevant health officials have failed.

An announcement is expected to be made Tuesday afternoon Australian time (morning in Europe).
