The pandemic situation in Austria is currently easing. On Tuesday (July 13th, 2021) a total of 218 new infections were reported, the incidence is 12.5. According to the RKI, Austria is not a risk area. Nevertheless, it says: “Austria is still affected by Covid-19.”
According to the Austrian Ministry of Health, more than five million people have been vaccinated at least once to date. Around 3.7 million people already have full protection, which is around 47.5% of the population of Austria.

Corona vacation in Austria: This applies to entry
If you want to travel from Germany to Austria, you have to present a negative corona test at the border. This does not apply to those who have been vaccinated, but they must show proof of complete vaccination. “Proof of recovery” from the previous 180 days is also accepted.
According to the authorities, border controls take place. “Delays at the border when entering Austria must be expected, the Foreign Office announced. Using Austria as a transit country is possible without any problems. No negative test or proof of vaccination is required for this. However, the border with Slovakia and the Czech Republic can only be crossed at certain points.
Austria vacation: These corona rules apply
- The mask requirement was lifted on Friday (July 9th, 2021). “From July 22nd, the masks will be in stores,” said Chancellor Kurz. However, mouth and nose protection must still be worn in the supermarket or discount store.
- There are no contact restrictions. Larger groups can move around freely in Austria. Nevertheless, the authorities refer to the distance regulation of one meter.
- In restaurants, hotels and at other events, you are required to submit a negative corona test. In addition, the catering establishments must not be fully utilized.
- A hygiene concept continues to apply in public facilities.
- In museums or other cultural institutions that take place inside, the mask requirement applies.
