The little animal loved to travel: a baby cat drove around 100 kilometers under the bonnet. Then came the rescue.
Essen – happy ending for stowaways: a kitten recovered from an engine compartment has found a new home with a police officer. As the police announced on Tuesday, the animal is just getting used to the colleague.
The Essen police had already reported the unusual animal find in mid-September: A passer-by heard a meow from the engine compartment of a parked car and notified the police.
The officers discovered a sleepy baby cat, which, according to the investigation, must have covered a full 100 kilometers in its hiding place under the hood. Because the car owner stated that she had freed two tiny velvet paws from their engine compartment the day before – before the third and apparently overlooked passenger had made themselves felt about 100 kilometers later.
Because the police station is not a good place for a cat, it was first taken to an animal shelter. When it became known that a colleague was looking for a new cat, a look at the photo of the animal was enough, the police said on Tuesday.
A few weeks later, the animal, which had meanwhile been nursed and cared for, was handed over as a playmate together with a second cat. “The new owners are currently keeping the two away from cars and engine compartments,” the police report said on Tuesday. dpa
